Janus Motorcycles has built its entire identity around doing things the old-fashioned way. Its bikes are assembled largely by hand in Goshen, Indiana; customers can customize practically everything, and the finished product looks like it escaped from a sepia-toned photograph before discovering electric starters. But there’s always been one slightly awkward detail hiding inside the company’s flagship Halcyon 450: its engine came from China.
That’s now changing. Janus has selected Taiwan-based Hartford as the Halcyon 450’s new engine supplier, moving the powerplant’s country of origin from China to Taiwan. Janus calls the change a refinement rather than a complete overhaul, which means neither the Halcyon nor the Gryffin are suddenly becoming fire-breathing superbikes with launch control and winglets. Instead, the company is pitching the switch as a way to improve production stability, reliability, and long-term supply confidence.
