Jannik Sinner breaks Novak Djokovic record with Miami Open win

Jannik Sinner set a new record for consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 events as the Italian reached the last 16 of the Miami Open.

Sinner beat Corentin Moutet 6-4 6-1 to make it 26 sets in a row without defeat at this level, surpassing the previous mark of Novak Djokovic.

The world number two needed just an hour and 12 minutes to secure victory and will face Alex Michelsen for a spot in the quarter-finals.

"I am very happy," Sinner said after his win. "This sport is unpredictable, so we try to keep attention as much as we can and we'll see what is coming in the next round."

Sinner, who is bidding to become the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to win the “Sunshine Double” of Indian Wells and Miami, can now extend his further on Tuesday against unseeded American Alex Michelsen.

Michelsen came from a set down to beat Chile's Alejandro Tabilo 3-6 6-3 6-4 to progress to the last 16.

After World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz’s third-round exit, defending champion Jakub Mensik was ousted by Frances Tiafoe while, in the women's event, there were victories for Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff.
