Janice Robinson ready to 'step back into the spotlight' to inspire a new generation

Former Livin' Joy singer Janice Robinson is set to make her musical comeback in the UK almost 30 years after releasing dance classic Dreamer.

The songstress, 54, is ready to make waves in the music industry once again after originally bursting onto the scene with the huge club anthem - and she hopes that she can also encourage people to follow their passion no matter how old they are.

Janice, who is now a teacher in the US, wants the release of new single Essex Girls and the remake of her iconic tune to show people your dream is never really over if you don't want it to be.

She claims that too many people these days struggle once the "high" in their career wears off and she wants to prove that the "lights can come back on" at any time.

Speaking to the Mirror, she said: "I'm just really hoping that a young person hears my story and goes 'Okay, I know that every season of my life is going to be different and that's okay. But I'm gonna keep on pushing through when the lights go out.'"

Janice revealed her "lights back on" moment came during her 2018 appearance on the X Factor when she received a standing ovation from the 5,000-strong crowd and judges, including Simon Cowell and Robbie Williams.

"Yeah. The X Factor thing was when the lights came back on," she admitted.

Discussing her time on the singing contest, she insists that she was originally contacted by the producers as they thought she would be "tragically awful".

However, her emphatic performance was anything but and she says younger people now recognise her more from the show than her successful career in years gone by.

She says though that she believes shows such as the X Factor and other reality TV programmes are simply "for the viewers" and she urged up-coming hopefuls to "do it from grassroots," claiming "organically grown acts offer more longevity".

Janice, who has also previously opened for Tina Turner on tour, confessed one of her main concerns on the X Factor was seeing wannabes give up.

Sharing her advice, she told any rising musicians they must be prepared to fight for their future in the industry and told them: "Don't worry when you hit 25. Don't worry when you hit 30. Don't trip if you're 40.

"As long as you have something to offer to people that gives them a euphoric feeling and gives them hope, then you can do it for as long as you want.

"You have to have a positive narrative in your mind to live a positive life."

And as she hopes to help others in the industry, she continues to live by a quote passed down by her father that she has since adapted to make her own: "If I can help somebody as I sing along life’s way then my life will not be in vain."

Janice went on to tell those who have tasted success but find themselves out of the public eye: "If you take care of yourself you can step back into your spotlight whenever."

Janice is teaming up with DJ Lodato to re-release her iconic hit song 'Dreamer' on February 25.
