Janey Godley slams trolls who taunt her over mother's death and past sexual abuse

Janey Godley has hit out at online trolls who have targeted her and made comments about her mother's death.

The Scots comedian has always spoken openly about online abuse she's suffered, but today decided to show followers a few of the vile messages she received after she shared a pro-trans post on Twitter.

The Record has decided not to quote the messages but Janey shared them and wrote: "I support trans people and this is just some of the s***e I get sent - dragging up my mums Murder and my past sex abuse - still it won’t stop me."

Janey's mother Annie was found dead in the Clyde during the 1980s but the 61-year-old claims her violent partner Peter Greenshields was to blame for her mother's death.

Many fans sent the star messages of support in the comments. One wrote: "Absolutely soulless, despicable behavior. Thank you for staying strong in the face of it!!" Another added: "You’re an absolute wonder so you are. A wee sweary beacon of light, hope and love. I’m ever so grateful for you. Thanks Janey."

While one said: "This is appalling. Discussing you like they have a right to pick your personal trauma apart for their own case study. What the hell is the matter with these people?"

Janey has previously spoken about her mum's tragic death in one of her podcast episodes. Talking about the man she thinks killed her mum, Janey said: "Peter had been put in prison before he met my mum for beating up women but my mum always told me it wasn't true.

"She told me he'd killed a swan and cooked it once, mum also told me to never argue back with Peter. One night I found my mum lying on Peter's living room floor, he was about to attack her with an axe. One Friday night my mum went missing and she's been with Peter.

"On the Monday morning her body was found in the River Clyde. Police said there was no evidence to suggest Peter had done it." The comedian has also recently been targeted by online trolls who slated her for her haircut.

Last year, Janey cut her long locks into a pixie cut as she underwent chemotherapy to combat her ovarian cancer diagnosis.

Janey, who is best known for her hilarious voiceover videos, took to her Facebook page to say that she had been subjected to abuse about her hair cut.

Posting to her fans, she wrote: "Over the last few days I had been slagged off and trolled by Scottish unionists on twitter for having a bald head and or just short white hair, apparently am either gay or collecting cats, the reason I am telling you this is so many women shared with me their photos of their heads and hair during cancer treatment that it became an outpouring of love and support on twitter and I couldn’t be anymore joyful. Incidentally there’s nothing wrong with being gay and having cats!"
