The Scots comedian was performing to thousands of fans at the SEC Armadillo on Sunday night when she went to take a sip of water and started choking. Noticing from the sidelines that her mum was struggling to breathe, daughter Ashley Storrie sprung in to action and ran on stage to help her mum.
The 62-year-old then needed a few minutes to recover meaning Ashley, who is also a comedian, had to take over and freestyle to keep the audience entertained.
Janey took to Twitter to talk about the ordeal, saying she thought she was "dying". She told fans: "Literally choked on water onstage and thought I was going to die - Audience were absolutely horrified and equally worried - i couldn’t breathe and then @ashleystorrie ran on and banged my back and I got back on track so sorry I scared everyone."
In another tweet, she added: "Just when I was choking and thought I was dying onstage my daughter ran on, banged my back - checked I was alive and improvised in front of 3,000 people until I got my breath back and we carried on with the show - Honey made her stage debut tonight as well - what a night! #secc."
Ashley then wrote: "Mum nearly choked to death on a sip of water, on stage, in front of thousands of people, I had to Pat her back, ascertain if she was dying and also take the mic and do funny bits while she learned to breathe again. I’m a f****** wreck."
On her Instagram, Janey said that she inhaled the water, causing her to break into a coughing fit. And many fans who were in the audience took to Twitter to say that they were worried at the time.
