Jane McDonald's key realisation that led her to staggering weight loss

Jane McDonald has shared the details of her staggering weight loss with fans. The Channel 5 star and ITV British Soap Awards host, who replaced Phillip Schofield at the awards show as its presenter after a series of scandals, has recently explained how she dropped four dress sizes.

Jane has gone down to a size 8 from size 14 in 2016, as reported by Birmingham Live. The 60-year-old told Women's Own: “Life’s too short not to have a scone or two, you’ve got to give yourself a little bit of pleasure.”

She added: “I know when to stop and I think that’s the secret. I have everything I want, but I don’t always finish it. I also have plenty of salad.” She continued: “I used to eat so much rubbish. I didn’t realise how much rubbish I used to eat.”

Jane admitted she used to eat "rubbish" as she was tired due to her hectic TV and filming schedule. But now she eats two meals a day, with her morning starting with a green smoothie, made up with a blend of raw greens, flax seeds, chia seeds, spinach, kale, mint and banana.

Jane also admitted the hardest part of her new diet was cutting back on red wine. Jane, who says she loves a good glass of red - said she found cutting back incredibly tough.

Jane also credits Sugar Free Farm - a TV show she featured on back in 2016 - with changing her mindset, and thanked it for giving her the tools and knowledge to be able to tailor her diet to something more healthy. "What made me so angry was when I found out just how much added sugar there is in pre-prepared food. It’s literally in everything. I'd been consuming it for years, without even knowing it," she said.

Jane revealed: "We had to cut out alcohol, cakes, biscuits, convenience food… everything. The hardest thing for me was missing red wine. Oh, I love my wine! But now I've completely cut down on it, and only have a glass once a week. That's a HUGE deal for me!"
