Jane McDonald has broken her silence after being announced as Phillip Schofield's replacement at the British Soap Awards.
The Yorkshire-born singer, 60, has taken over the role after the disgraced presenter cut ties with ITV after confessing to an affair with a younger male colleague. Fans have rushed to congratulate Jane on the exciting announcement as they gush that she is the natural choice.
Taking to Instagram to announce the news, Jane wrote: " I'm so excited to be this years host for The British Soap Awards!!"
She continued: "Everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale so this is just a dream come true.
"I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them - roll on the awards, I can’t wait!"
Fans rushed to the comments to congratulate Jane, as one wrote: "Congratulations, couldn’t have went to a better person. Better have a stellar song at the end."
"Congratulations Jane, I’ll watch it now you’re presenting," said another. A third penned: "Absolutely brilliant news …. I don’t watch the soaps but I love watching you so shall be tuning in….. we need to see more of you on the TV…. Well done darling."
A fourth penned: "Best news ever such a natural choice salt of the earth is Jayne!"
In a statement organisers of the British Soap Awards said: "We're pleased to announce our host for The British Soap Awards 2023...the fabulous Jane McDonald!
