Janapada Sambhrama, a two-day folk festival to be organised by Kannada Janapada Academy and the Department of Tourism, will begin at Siddipriaya Kalyana Mantap in Hosapete, Vijayanagara district, on Saturday.
In a media release, Padma Shri award winner and transgender folklore artist and chairperson of Karnataka Janapada Academy Manjamma Jogati and Academy Registrar N. Namrata said that honorary awards for 2019 and the book awards for 2020 will also be distributed on the occasion.
“Minister for Muzrai, Haj and Wakf Shashikala Annasaheb Jolle will inaugurate the event. Minister for Transport and Tribal Welfare B. Sriramulu will be the guest of honour. Minister for Tourism, Environment and Ecology Anand Singh will preside over the event. Minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture Sunil Kumar will distribute the awards. Parliamentarians Y. Devendrappa, G.M. Siddeshwar and Syed Nasi Hussein, legislators P.T. Parameshwar Naik, N.Y. Gopalakrishna, Bhimanaik, Allam Veerabhadrappa, G. Karunakar Reddy, S.V. Ramachandra, Chandrashekhar B. Patil, Shashil G Namoshi and Y.M. Satish will be present,” Ms. Jogati said in the release.
As per information provided by Ms. Jogati, a colourful cultural procession will be taken out from Sri Vadakaraya Temple to Siddipriaya Kalyana Mantap on Saturday. A number of folk cultural troupes will perform in the procession.
Sharanappa Wadageri, Yallappa Bhandarada, Ramesh H., Harijan Neelappa, Jivan Sab, Shankarappa Badagi, Mahantesh, Tamboori Umanaik and other cultural activists will perform on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner Anirudh Sravan, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Harshal Bhoyar Narayanrao, Superintendent of Police K. Arun, Tourism Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Kannada and Culture Secretary N. Manjula, Tourism Department Director Venkatesh T. and Kannada and Culture Department Director Prakash G.T. will be among the dignitaries who will take part in the event.
