Jamie Redknapp has infuriated fans by appearing to ‘brag’ about his lavish family Christmas in the cost of living crisis.
The former football player, 49, took to Instagram on Boxing Day to reflect on his festive celebrations - which saw a two-time Michelin star chef stop by at his house to cook for his nearest and dearest.
Jamie and his wife Frida Andersson, 39, their children, and grandparents Harry and Sandra Redknapp were were treated to a larger-than-life spread of crispy roast potatoes, brussels sprouts, carrots, cranberry sauce, beef and turkey, among other dishes.
“Happy Christmas and God Jul,” Jamie wrote in the social media post. “Love from our family. Amazing food @rest_story,” he concluded, pointing out the two-time Michelin star restaurant, headed up by Tom Sellers, which catered for his family on the big day.
But fans quickly took to sharing their thoughts about the football star’s lavish Christmas Day routine, and they weren’t happy.
“So sad that you can post pictures like that, having your own chef to do your Xmas dinners when so many people are struggling to feed their kids & heat their houses,” one onlooker wrote. “It must be nice to have that money !! Players overpaid & pundits. Have some respect!”
Another follower wrote: “Cook your own food ffs! Why be so overly indulgent? It's not hard to do,” whilst a third added: “Not appropriate. People [are] starving.”
“Looks like the cost of living hasn’t hit home yet,” another noted.
Meanwhile, Jamie’s other fans thought it was unfair to blame the Sky Sports pundit for the way he chooses to spend his own money.
“Some people acting like the cost of living crisis is Jamie's fault,” one person defended, while another added: “Food looks great. You've earned your money so you should be able to spend it however you like. I think [hiring] a chef is a great idea.”
Another user said: "Oooh send him round! Looks incredible and I love that you showed recognition for him.. (It’s ok to have a chef cook their Christmas dinner... that’s what chefs do.)"
The Mirror has contacted a representative of Jamie Redknapp for a comment on the claims.
Jamie and his wife Frida celebrated their second Christmas with their blended families after tying the knot in October 2021.
After a whirlwind romance, the pair welcomed a child and got hitched within two years of meeting.
Their son Raphael was born in November - weeks after their intimate wedding service.
Jamie informed fans of the news at the time via a sweet Instagram post, writing: “Meet Raphael Anders Redknapp. We’re so in love, mum is doing so well too.
“We can’t thank the amazing doctors and nurses at the Chelsea and Westminster enough. So excited for him to meet my boys.”
