Jamie-Lee O'Donnell puts Derry designer in the spotlight with premiere outfit

A Northern Ireland based clothing designer has said he feels "honoured" that Derry Girls star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell decided to wear one of their pieces to the premiere last week.

Liam McDaid, who owns AMACH streetwear, said he was "really humbled" by how grounded the Derry actress was given her success.

Ahead of the third and final series of the Channel 4 hit comedy tonight, many of the stars took to the red carpet in Derry last week (April 7) to mark the beginning of the end.

A special premiere screening of the first episode, organised by Channel 4 and NI Screen, at the Omniplex Cinema saw crowds gather to catch a glimpse of Derry royalty.

After the screening event cast members posed for photographs with fans outside the venue.

Writer and creator Lisa McGee was joined by Derry natives Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell who play Erin and Michelle, everyone's favourite overprotective grandfather Ian McElhinney, Art Campion who plays Father Peter and director Michael Lennox.

Taking to social media, Liam said the piece Jamie-Lee wore was inspired by the rave culture in the city and the major role it played in the peace process here.

He said: "Honoured to have Jamie-lee give me a shout the other day and say she wanted to wear AMACH at the final Derry Girls premier and the final wrap party.

"Really humbled by how grounded she is given her success. She is wearing a piece from a forthcoming collection called ‘Euphoric Love’ which tracks the birth of rave culture right through to the present day, celebrating our own heroes in this space such as Celtronic and the magnificent Jika Jika!

"For me, the explosion of rave culture played a major role in the Peace Process here and, more generally, has been a scene that has brought people from all backgrounds and classes together.

"It is the ultimate peacekeeper and the impact of the scene even found its way to our family on a personal level, for which we are all eternally grateful."

Episode one of Derry Girls season 3 begins tonight (Tuesday, April 12) at 9:15pm on Channel 4
