Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis fought back tears in a live television interview on Monday as she discussed Kanye West's ant-Semitic Twitter rant.
Speaking to host Hoda Kotb on The Today Show, the 63-year old actress described the rapper as 'abhorrent' following remarks he made on the social media platform, which resulted in him being locked out of his account.
Curtis, who was appearing on the show to promote the latest instalment of the renowned horror franchise titled 'Halloween Ends', recalled reading Kanye's tweet on Sunday morning.
"I woke up and I burst out into tears. Death Con 3 on Jewish people? What are you doing?" she said.
"It's bad enough that fascism is on the rise around the world, but on Twitter, on a portal, as if Jewish people haven't had it hard enough.
"As if Asian people - I mean Everything, Everywhere All at Once is a movie about an immigrant Asian family, as if Asian people haven't had enough. I mean it's just abhorrent. It's abhorrent."
'Death Con' - or DEFCON levels as West presumably meant - are used throughout the United States' Armed Forces to determine the military readiness necessary based on threats to the country.
The daughter of renowned Jewish actor Tony Curtis added that her first thoughts after reading the tweet centered around her grandparents - who were Hungarian Jewish immigrants - and that she now hoped 'Ye' and his children 'would get help' following the backlash.
Curtis then rhetorically asked host Kotb 'if we aren't reacting then who are we?' before labelling the situation a 'big concern' - referring to the lack of outrage at his comments outside of the Jewish community.
West, 45, who is currently going by the name 'Yeezus', said in the now removed tweets: "I'm a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I'm going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.'
"The funny thing is I actually can't be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also.
"You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda."
That led Curtis to respond: " 'The holiest day in Judaism was last week. Words matter. A threat to Jewish people ended once in a genocide."
A Twitter spokesperson has confirmed that the rapper's account has been locked stating: "The account in question has been locked due to a violation of Twitter’s policies."
According to Twitter’s policy, meanwhile, no person can "promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease."
