Jamie Carragher believes Newcastle United fans would have been 'expecting a lot more' signings to have arrived at St James' Park this summer. However, the former Liverpool defender has praised the Magpies for not being 'stupid' in their business.
Eddie Howe has been frustrated in his efforts to land attacking reinforcements so far in this window. Hugo Ekitike turned down an approach for the second window running, while United have had two bids turned down by Leicester City for James Maddison.
Newcastle did secure the signing of top defensive target Sven Botman following a protracted pursuit, along with deals for Nick Pope and Matt Targett. However, it has been more than month since Howe has been able to welcome a new signing into his squad.

Carragher was joined by fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville to assess each Premier League club's business so far. There are still three weeks to go until the deadline, but Carragher awarded Newcastle a 'C' grade for their business so far.
He told Football Daily: "I think you would be expecting a lot more if you were a Newcastle fan in terms of players coming in. But in some ways, I actually admire them for not doing stupid things because people know they've got money and bringing players in left, right and centre.
"They're trying to wait to get the players that they want. They've obviously got the centre-back Botman, they've made sensible signings but I do think they'll maybe want one or two more before the window closes."
