Jamie Carragher sent a message of support to Liverpool Women after their impressive victory over reigning Super League champions, Chelsea.
The Reds hosted Emma Hayes' side at Prenton Park on Sunday evening and managed to secure three points courtesy of a Katie Stengel brace, with both goals arriving from the penalty spot. Facing Chelsea represented the toughest of starts to life back in the top-flight for Liverpool, though they rose to this challenge in style.
A club-record crowd of 3,006 were present to watch the Reds kick-off their 2022/23 campaign in the best possible way, while many others are expected to have tuned into the game on Sky Sports as interest in the Women's game continues to grow on the back of the Lionesses' Euros success this summer.
AS IT HAPPENED: Liverpool Women beat Chelsea on WSL opening day
Among those to have watched Liverpool cause an upset on the opening weekend of the WSL was none other than Carragher, who tweeted the following message at full-time: "What a result @LiverpoolFCW - fantastic start in #WSL."
Liverpool's next WSL fixture represents another big occasion as Matt Beard's team entertain Everton in a Merseyside derby at Anfield.
