Jamie Carragher has issued a tribute to John Motson after the commentator died aged 77.
The world of football is in mourning after the Match of the Day legend's death was announced this morning. The broadcaster, known as Motty, commentated on more than 2,500 televised matches and provided the voice of some of the game's most iconic moments.
He joined the BBC in 1958 and went on to cover 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals before he retired from the organisation in 2018. Liverpool FC legend Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter and summed up exactly what Motty meant to the sport.

He said: "RIP John Motson. An absolute legend of the game.
"So many of us grew up listening to this man describe the action & goals on MOTD & cup finals. Sad loss."
Fans took to the comments to agree with the Sky Sports pundit.
Ged said: "Will be sadly missed. The voice of football commentary and a legend so many of grew up listening to and who made the game so enjoyable. RIP"
John added: "The voice of football for me growing up. Very sad news."
