'Tried everything' - Jamie Carragher sends scathing message to Liverpool players and gives Jurgen Klopp verdict

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool may need four or five new players to turn around their troubles, but the last person he would be replacing is Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds appeared to plunge into crisis on Saturday as they suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanders in what was Klopp's third consecutive away loss in the Premier League. With a host of key players absent with injury, it leaves last year's runners-up languishing in tenth position in the table and seemingly little hope of qualifying for next year's Champions League, unless they can win the competition this season.

Former Reds defender Carragher accepts that his former club's season looks all but over and that a summer rebuild job will now take priority, but he still wants manager Klopp to lead the revolution.

Speaking about the Reds latest set-back on Sky Sports, ahead of Tottenham's Premier League match against Manchester City, Carragher said: "I didn't expect Liverpool to win. It could have been worse. I don't think the way Liverpool are playing at this moment - how they performed - I think they've lost three on the bounce now away from home. And not just lost, lost badly to Wolves, Brentford and Brighton. No disrespect to those teams, they're not the biggest teams in the world. It's not like coming here (Tottenham) or going to Manchester City. I wasn't too hopeful about the game.

Carragher's Sky Sports punditry colleague Micah Richards was keen to push him on what he thought was going wrong at Liverpool and what needed to be done.

Carragher said: "A lot of people are scratching their heads. It's maybe something we'll get into at the end of Super Sunday. We'll see how today goes. I'm keeping my powder dry!

"I just think you look at it now and they look a million miles off where they've been for the last few years and you're trying to work out why. We've been doing that all season. But it doesn't feel like it's getting any better and Klopp's tried everything in terms of playing the experienced players, playing the younger players, changing formations, nothing's working and it almost feels like they've got to crawl and hang on to the Summer and try and sort it out in the transfer market."

When pushed as to whether Klopp would have the stomach to go again with a new team at Anfield, Carragher continued: "I would change everyone else at that football club before I changed Jurgen Klopp. When he first came in Liverpool were sixth or seventh in the league and he took them to where Liverpool have been in the last few years. He's proven that he can do that and I'd like to see him do that again, I'm sure he will.

"If you're talking about a change of manager, any manager coming into Liverpool would need to rebuild. I don't think it's just a case of buying one player. People keep talking about 'bring Jude Bellingham in'. I think the longer it goes each week now it feels like it's bigger than one or two players. It might actually be four or five that need to come in. Any manager at Liverpool at the start of next season would have to do that.

"Jurgen Klopp has produced miracles for Liverpool at times. You can question him in terms of how's it go to this, he's part of that management and recruitment team. How have they gone from almost winning four trophies last season to being tenth the league right now? There's a lot of questions that need to be asked and a lot of answers to be found, but at the start of next season I don't think there's anyone Liverpool supporters would want in that dugout other than Jurgen Klopp."
