Jamie Carragher heaps praise on William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus amid 'impressive' Arsenal start

Arsenal have had the best start to the new Premier League season and two players have been key to the Gunners staying ahead of their rivals.

Gabriel Jesus completed a £45million move from Manchester City in the summer transfer window and has been a revelation in attack for Mikel Arteta's side. The Spaniard revealed how the club were able to convince the Brazilian striker to swap the Etihad Stadium for the Emirates Stadium with Jesus having scored five goals and provided a further three assists in his first eight matches.

William Saliba returned to north London following a very successful spell on-loan with Ligue 1 outfit Marseille last term. The French defender spent the last three seasons out on loan as he continued development and won the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award last season, carrying his fine form into his debut season with the Gunners.

When analysing the North London Derby on SkySports Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher was full of praise for both William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus. Carragher said:"A lot of people would've thought that it would be Spurs in the position that Arsenal are in right now [top of the Premier League].

"Spurs have got a bit of criticism for their performance [vs Arsenal], but in terms of how they actually played, they played how a Conte team wants to play. If they would have got the final pass right on four or five occasions, they may have gone into half-time ahead.

"Take nothing away from Arsenal, I've been so impressed with them at the start of the season. The pace they play at, the football they play. The two signings, well Saliba has just come back, but him and Jesus have just completely taken this Arsenal side to a new level."

Arsenal face an out-of-form Liverpool side next in the Premier League but their focus now turns to Europa League action once again. The Gunners are targeting a return to the UEFA Champions League next season and are looking strong in both the Premier League and European competition, with both avenues offering the chance for Champions League qualification.
