Jamie Carragher caught on camera in Ruben Neves discussion as Liverpool 'tapping up' claim denied

Jamie Carragher has been forced to deny trying to lure Wolves star Ruben Neves to Liverpool.

The Wolves captain has emerged as a potential candidate for the midfield transformation as Jurgen Klopp's side are set for a busy summer transfer window. Neves has seen his future at Molineux subject to speculation after rumoured approaches from Arsenal and now murmurs of a switch to Merseyside.

Since his arrival in the black country, the Portugal international has gone from strength to strength establishing himself as an indispensable player at Wolves. The former Liverpool defender was captured speaking to the 25-year-old prior to their clash with Fulham on Friday night - something he was forced to deny as Neville couldn't resist a dig.

"In terms of Ruben Neves, you were tapping him up earlier," quipped presenter Kelly Cates.

"No, no," Carragher replied. "We're allowed to joke. What goes on in the green room, stays in the green room, Kelly. We've all got little different avenues," he added in response to the tongue-in-cheek comment.

Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount are among the names mooted with summer moves to Klopp's side with Neves and his Wolves teammate Matheus Nunes also in the conversation.

And the former Manchester United defender believes he could feature in any midfield in Europe - but not Liverpool.

"It's interesting that you should say about Neves, he's been at Wolves quite a long time. I genuinely believe that Ruben Neves could go and sit in any midfield in Europe in any team in any league and be comfortable."

"Well that's what I asked him," Carragher quickly interjected. Neville couldn't resist a dig amid Liverpool's indifferent season: "He just doesn't want to sit in Liverpool's midfield," he said.
