Jamie Carragher backs Steve Cooper to keep Nottingham Forest up on one condition

Jamie Carragher believes Steve Cooper is "without a doubt" the man to keep Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this season.

The former Liverpool defender spoke about Cooper and Forest's chances of beating the drop after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Friday evening. A stoppage-time penalty from Alex Isak saw the Magpies take all three points.

Carragher backed Cooper in his post-match analysis, but said he believes Forest's home form will be the deciding factor as to whether or not they are playing in the Premier League next season.

When asked whether Cooper is the man to lead Forest between now and the end of the season, Carragher said: "Oh without a doubt, yes. You think of the job he's done here, the supporters absolutely love him. The record here (at the City Ground ) is what will decide whether they stay up or not.

"It's the first time they've lost I think in 10 games at home. They need to continue that run of form they've had at home. I don't think their away form is going to massively improve (but) they'll need to pick up a few points here and there.

"Out of all those teams (at the bottom) I'd say Everton have got more of a chance of staying up than anyone because of the change of manager, bringing Sean Dyche in. They've got 49% chance (of staying up).

"That's going to change on a weekly basis, but I think the big thing is there's so many teams involved now, they're all going to play each other between now and the end of the season. That's what will determine whether they stay up or not."

Who do you think will be the three teams to go down this season? Let us know in the comments.
