Jamie Carragher and Hasselbaink send Premier League title message to Arsenal amid Man City race

Jamie Carragher has urged Arsenal to remain calm in the Premier League title race after their goalless draw against Newcastle which has opened up an opportunity for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side can close the margin between themselves and Arsenal down to five points as they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening (Thursday).

Arsenal's draw against Newcastle prevented the league leaders from opening a ten-point gap. The stalemate at Emirates Stadium was the first time Arsenal have not secured maximum points in a home game this season and in another first, the Gunners failed to find the back of the net after scoring in every other league game this campaign.

Following City's match against Chelsea there will still be 21 games left to play for both teams and more twists and turns in the title race are bound to occur.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged Mikel Arteta and his team to remain calm and has named the two clashes with City as games where the title could be decided.

"Arsenal the other night I just thought they need to relax," Carragher said on Sky Sports. "There’s so many games in a season, and when we talk about City being able to win 10 games in a row, that’s what Arsenal have virtually done the last sort of two or three months before the World Cup.

"I think Arsenal have only dropped points in three games? That’s some going. That is some going. A lot of it will come down to the two games between Manchester City and Arsenal. If Arsenal want to win the title they’re probably going to have to take four points off Manchester City I would expect and that would put them in a great position, but I think Arsenal have been absolutely fantastic, they don’t need to worry because they dropped two points - that’s going to happen."

Hasselbaink meanwhile, delivered a firm verdict on why he thinks City will catch Arsenal. "I think eventually they will get to Arsenal," he said. "Don’t get me wrong, Arsenal is playing absolutely amazing football and I like watching them, but I just think Man City has got the quality but also the experience.

"They are just so calm, I don’t think they are looking at Arsenal, they’re not worried about Arsenal at the moment, they can just go like 10 games in a row winning. They can do that, they have done that before, they have been in this position and they are just in control at the moment, and Arsenal is just looking behind them."
