A Hollywood star has told how he began an online romance with an attractive girl before finding out it was his dad who was trying to connect with him after he had been estranged.
Actor and filmmaker James Morosini, 31, said that he struck up a relationship with “Becca” after the person contacted him on Facebook and they shared similar interests.
All appeared to be going well until he bizarrely found out that it was really his father attempting to speak to him after being cut out of Morosini’s life.
Morosini, who starred in The Sex Lives of College Girls on HBO, has told how he has turned the unusual experience, that took place when he was 20, into a film.
He told the Daily Beast : “I took the kernel of what actually happened and extrapolated upon that, and used my imagination to push it to the furthest degree of, ‘what if it had gone even further in this direction?'
“Or, you know, what if I hadn’t found out? Or what if it had taken me longer to find out?”
The film I love My Dad’s storyline is of a son who had decided to block his father completely out of his life due to their poor relationship.
But then the dad, played by Patton Oswalt, tries to come up with a way to get back in touch and hits up on the plan to create a fake profile and catfish him.
The two get on well and bond together before Morosini’s character starts striking up a more romantic approach which escalates into sexting.
In real life, Morosini discovered that “Becca” was in fact his dad when he saw that their email addresses were the same.
And rather than the two falling out again, they were able to build on the strange way that they had reunited and now have a strong relationship.
“It was us hitting that rock bottom in our relationship, but it forced us to confront some of the foundational problems of our relationship and actually caused things between him and I to get a lot better over time, because we had to talk about it,” Morosini said.
