James McAvoy announces free gig at iconic Scottish venue

JAMES McAvoy has announced a free gig at an iconic Scottish venue.

The Scottish actor is making his directorial debut with California Schemin’, a film which centres around Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd who are fed up of London record producers not taking Scottish rap seriously and dismissing them as "rapping Proclaimers".

In a post on Instagram, McAvoy (below) announced the free noughties-themed gig at Barrowlands Ballroom, taking place on November 21.

McAvoy said: “As part of my directorial debut – a film called California Schemin’ – we will be putting on a very special and very free gig here at the Barrowlands Glasgow Ballroom.”

The gig is completely free to attend, although guests have to register for a ticket.

McAvoy will be joined by a host of Scottish musicians, including Roddy Hart and Tommy Reilly.

Filming will take place on the night for California Schemin’, so people are being asked to dress in an “early 2000s vibe”.

The gig’s event page reads: “Think baggy jeans, oversized jerseys, and tracksuits. Top it off with snapbacks, chunky sneakers and some bling to complete the look.

“Go bold and nostalgic – it’s all about that early 2000s vibe!”

The page also asks attendees to “please avoid large logos”.
