James Martin apologises to viewers for breaking down in tears on live Morning TV

TV chef James Martin has apologised to fans after he became overwhelmed with emotion on ITV 's Saturday Morning show this week.

James, 49, wiped away tears as he celebrated 200 episodes and was shown footage of some of his career highlights from a sea of famous faces.

But it was the memory of spending an afternoon with his culinary idol Michel Roux Snr which sparked the teary display.

Posting on Twitter after the show, James penned: "Sorry I got a bit emotional on the @sat_jamesmartin show. Michel Roux Snr was like a father figure to me and that day in France was one of the greatest in my life."

Roux Snr is best known for founding various restaurants, including as Le Gavroche, the first restaurant in Britain ever to be awarded three Michelin stars.

He passed away in 2020, aged 78.

Following the news of the death of his former mentor, James shared with his social media followers that he was "broken" and went on to detail that the world has "lost a legend and me a friend".

James, has previously gushed about his admiration for the star entrepreneur and the emotional outburst was clearly bittersweet for the talented chef.

But fans of the show were keen to praise the TV presenter for showing his emotions.

One posted: "Don’t apologise. I was crying with you. Happy 200th! I love your show."

A second added: "James never apologise for your emotions.. totally natural and we have all been there .. i am sure you treasure the memories of your time with him."

A third commented: "There is no need to be sorry for showing your emotions James. Michel Roux Snr was not only a father figure to you but also a wonderful friend and mentor. I can fully understand that day in France with him was the greatest day of your life. Big love to you fella."

A fourth penned: "You don't need to apologise for having such fantastic memories of someone who you obviously looked up to and admired.."
