James Garner sent Nottingham Forest warning amid Man Utd transfer links

James Garner has been warned off a return to the City Ground by Nottingham Forest fans after Manchester United made the decision to sell the midfielder.

The 21-year-old has reportedly been transfer listed by the Red Devils, who want to sell him for between £15-20 million. The Reds have been cited as one of the clubs interested in his signature, as have Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Forest have already signed a number of players who play in his position. At the weekend they confirmed deals for Remo Freuler and Cheikh Kouyate after bringing in Orel Mangala and Lewis O'Brien earlier this summer.

That would leave Garner with a serious battle on his hands for a starting place, if he were to re-join Forest after last season's impressive loan spell at the City Ground. And that's something Forest supporters have been quick to point out.

Here's what some Forest fans were saying on our Facebook page:

Dave Cowley: Don't think he will come now as we have 6 players now fighting for 2 maybe 3 spots depending on what formation we play.

Joe Frost: Got a fight on his hands for a place if he does come. Maybe a loan with the option to buy at the end of the season. Still think he could become a great great player and a lot younger than some of the other guys we’ve bought in. Rather pay 15-20 mill for him than 45 or whatever Wolves wanted for [Morgan Gibbs-White].

Ashley Lees: Don’t think he would get in the midfield now with the quality we have sad to say! Mangala and O’Brien looked very good yesterday and with 3 more very good midfielders just through or coming in shortly, can’t see him playing!

Liam Massey: He's not needed now really. 3 weeks ago different story but I’m sure he’d be in the same situation with us by just being a squad player. He needs regular game time which I doubt he’d get with us

Steve Gutteridge: Utd could have made this decision before the season kicked off! We would probably have signed him in the blink of an eye. Hope does well wherever he goes Manure fans will be begging for him back like Henderson.

Sean Quinn: Bit late in the day now as would have been great to have him back, he did so much to take us up. Seems amazing he hasn’t got a chance instead of Fred and McDonkey.

Tom Hulley: Hate to say it but I don’t think he would get in our team now.

Gary P: He will be here in the last few days/hours of the window, I suspect.

Dave Weebs: I'd sign him. He has talent and ability and he can cover a number of spots. He's not a bad defender too.
