James Corden managed to snatch his phone away just in time to stop an interviewer seeing his texts from Prince Harry.
The Gavin and Stacey star has been close to the Duke of Sussex since he moved to California with Meghan Markle - even landing his first sit-down interview after arriving in Montecito back in 2021.
The Brits abroad spent the afternoon riding round together on an open top bus ride for a segment on The Late Late Show, which will be hosted by Corden for the last time on Thursday evening.
James' children have been for a play date at the couple's home, with the presenter stating that the families have also gone out for dinner.
But perhaps the best indicator of their friendship came recently when Corden got a private text from Harry during an interview.
While being interviewed by The Sun - James' phone bleeped twice with a notification from 'Harry New'.
Both James and the interviewer looked down at the mobile on the table, realising it had come from none other than the royal prince.
Wanting to make sure the text couldn't be seen, it's claimed the comedian "batted" the interviewer's hand away before they could read them.
"Oh God, wouldn’t you just love to see these," he reportedly said before snatching his iPhone away.
When asked directly about Harry and Megan, James insisted he would not speak about the couple because "it's not fair".
James and his wife, Julia Carey, live just an hour-and-a-half away from the Sussexes - and the Smithy actor has "nothing but admiration and respect" for the couple.
Last year, James revealed he is a "huge fan" of Harry and Meghan and he will "always be in their corner".
Speaking about the former royals in an interview with The Sun, James admitted: "I'm a huge fan of both of them. Obviously I know Harry better than I know Meghan."
The Gavin & Stacey co-creator suggested that negative opinions of the couple don't "need to be voiced" all the time, with him going on to express his total admiration for them.
He said: "I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Harry, and anyone who has been around him and spent time with him would feel exactly the same way."
Corden also mocked the prince after the Duke of Sussex revealed how he lost his virginity.
As James played the clip on his US TV programme, he giggled and joked: "Only four lines, that's ok it happens to a lot of guys the first time!"
He then took aim at the location of Harry's rendezvous as he said: "In a field behind a pub; that's one of those things that's worse than the sum of its parts. You lose you virginity in a field or in a pub – not great either way.
"In a field behind a pub, that's terrible! Isn't it?," he said to a chuckling audience.
