James Corden's 'unsustainable' Late Late Show 'losing $25million a year' before teary end

James Corden went out with a bang during his final Late Late Show as he was surrounded by famous pals including Adele and Harry Styles.

The 44-year-old comedian had been entertaining his loyal legion of fans for eight years, but has now bid an emotional farewell to his popular CBS chat show at the end of last month.

James announced his exit plans last year and said he made the decision to leave in order to spend more time with his wife Julia and their three children — Charlotte, five, Carey, eight and Max, 12.

However, a source has now claimed the Late Late Show had become "unsustainable" and was rapidly losing money.

They said it cost around $60million (£48million) a year to produce, but was only making around $45million (£36million).

"It was simply not sustainable. CBS could not afford him anymore," an executive at the show told Los Angeles Magazine.

The source claims James would have had to take a multimillion dollar pay cut if he had wanted to stay at CBS, or faced "painful staff reductions".

During his final ever show, James was overcome with emotion as he was joined by Tom Cruise, Wil Ferrell and Harry Styles.

Fans also watched on as James did the last-ever Carpool Karaoke with his best friend Adele.

The 34-year-old singer was of the first stars to make an appearance, with her returning to the show for the final-ever Carpool Karaoke instalment.

James' final show even included a special message from US President Joe Biden.

The 80-yea-old issued an announcement in the form of a video message, with him cracking a few jokes before saying: "I'm going to miss you buddy."

Biden then thanked James for never inviting him onto Carpool Karaoke, before the final segment of the show played out.

For the final segment, James could be seen sitting at a piano where he partook in an audience sing-along of Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Getting a standing ovation from the audience, he then delivered his parting line: "I'm gonna miss you all so much."
