James Corden's move to UK causes fans to fear he is the new Doctor Who

James Corden recently announced he would be stepping down from the Late Late Show in 2023 to move back to the UK, leaving Doctor Who fans in fear.

The presenter and actor confirmed his last instalment of the American talk show would come to an end next year, as he wants to move to the UK and spend more time with his family.

Since announcing the dramatic U-turn, many fans are wondering what the Gavin & Stacey star will do yet with a number of fans confirmed he will become Doctor Who.

James’ fellow US talk show host Stephen Colbert started speculation James could be set to replace Jodie Whittaker on Doctor Who when she leaves later this year.

He tweeted: "Congratulations, James, on what will be eight incredible years at CBS. 12:30 won’t be the same without you.

"But looking forward to your exciting adventures as the new Doctor Who!"

His tweet appears to be a joke, but has ruffled the feathers of many of the BBC show fans.

One user said: "pleeeeeease don't be true. Just read somewhere James Corden is gonna be Dr Who? Oh god I hope not."

"If James Corden becomes the next dr who I change my stance on bbc privatisation," another joked.

A third wrote: " @JKCorden Dude, you are not Dr Who. I really like you, but uR not The Doctor."

However, not everyone was unhappy about the potential decision.

One wrote: "Wow congratulations James ! I could not think of a better person to be Dr. Who! Yeah!"

" @BBCTheOneShow wouldn't James Corden make a fab Dr Who?!," another tweeted.

A third said: "I think this must be a joke. Nevertheless, Corden would be a great Dr. Who. It’s difficult to picture it, because he has been doing comedy for quite some time, but he’s very talented, and multifaceted, and I’m sure, even if it’s a different portrayal, it would be fantastic."

Fans of the long-running sci-fi show will know James has appeared in two episodes of the programme before, playing Craig Owens, a flatmate of Matt Smith’s Doctor.

Russell T. Davies will return to the helm as showrunner next year, and speculation over who might replace Jodie as The Doctor is through the roof as former Doctor David Tennant is the front-runner.

It’s not the only show James is linked with making a comeback, with some fans convinced he’ll be back for more Gavin and Stacey – after a very dramatic Christmas special in 2019.
