James Bulger's mum shares favourite memories of 'giggling, happy' son 30 years on from his death

James Bulger's mum has described her favourite memories of her 'giggling, happy' son, who was killed 30 years ago today. Denise Fergus says not being able to say goodbye to her child still hurts her to this day.

The youngster was murdered in Liverpool on February 12, 1993, one month short of his third birthday. CCTV footage from the period showed the toddler being led away from Bootle’s Strand shopping centre.

His killers, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, became the youngest convicted murderers in the UK in more than a century. As reported by The Liverpool Echo, in the foreword of Denise's newly updated autobiography, I Let Him Go, it reads: "Above all, Denise doesn't want her son to be remembered as a murdered child, and with this beautifully written book, she does just that."
