The mother of James Bulger, the little boy who was kidnapped and killed by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, has spoken for the first time about two conversations that have brought her a measure of peace ahead of the 30th anniversary of the horrendous crime.
Speaking to The Daily Record, Denise Fergus said she had taken comfort from a government plan that would mean Jon Venables would never be set free, and she had this year been comforted by the words of a police forensic psychologist.
Professor Paul Britton, who was part of the Thompson and Venables police investigation in 1993, recently shared details about the crime with Denise that she had never heard before, revealing to her for the first time that he did not think Venables and Robert Thompson’s attack on two-year-old James was sexually motivated.
