James Bond fans convinced Richard Madden is next 007 after social media clue

Richard Madden has sparked excitement from fans by giving off James Bond vibes in a recent social media post.

The Scots actor, 36, is a frontrunner to take over the iconic spy role after Daniel Craig stepped down from the franchise. Richard, who is currently starring in Amazon Prime's new spy thriller Citadel, alongside Priyanka Chopra, Stanley Tucci, and Ashleigh Cummings, has 007 fans convinced he's next to play the legendary secret agent.

Sharing a video alongside The Lovely Bones actor Stanley Tucci, Richard smiled as they drank martinis with lemon slices in the clip. Richard, originally from Elderslie, could be seen clinking his martini with Stanley before taking a big swig of the famous cocktail to the delight of fans.

Fans of the actor went wild and took it as a hint that the Game of Thrones star will be playing 007 in the next instalment of the hit film series. One commented: "I don’t know what drinks look like, but if that’s Richard Madden drinking a Martini that’s been shaken, not stirred……imma hit the roof with excitement."

"New Bond and Q?!," another joked. A third added: "There you go, here's the new James Bond."

Another penned: "Love this, hope you're the new James bond and Stanley is your adversary!," while someone else quipped: "That’s a terrible martini audition for Bond @maddenrichard."

Richard recently admitted that he kept up his American accent for Citadel for two years to ensure his west of Scotland tones didn't come through, except for during one special occasion.

He told Tribune: “I’m not a method actor in any way but I stayed in the accent for the duration — so sadly my friends and family had to listen to me put on a silly voice evenings and weekends for a couple of years.”

He added: “So I stay in the American accent, you know, apart from the occasional Friday night martini with Stanley Tucci, in which case my Scottish accent comes out, but the rest of the time I keep training that accent.

"I don’t want anything taking away from the audience believing who the character is so I just worked hard to make sure the sounds were as spot on as they could be.”

Happy Valley's James Norton is currently leading the betting odds to become the next James Bond, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavil close behind. Richard currently has 14/1 odds for the iconic role.
