Ever wondered what words and phrases an England cricketer has muted on Twitter?
Well, James Anderson has revealed all in a TikTok with his Tailenders podcast co-hosts Greg James, Felix White and Matt 'Mattchin' Horan. In the clip, Anderson simply reads the list of words and phrases he has muted, which include hilarious nods to rivals from Australia, South Africa and India.
Firstly, Anderson simply has the word "Australia" muted along with various references to the calf injury which ruled him out of the 2019 Ashes after he had bowled just four overs and also forced him to miss the first Test of this winter's Ashes series, including "calf", "injury," "injured", "done", "finished".
Anderson also has the words "cloud", "clouds" and "clouderson" muted as some fans try and claim he is only effective in home conditions, despite his excellent record away from home over the past five years.
Australia legend Glenn McGrath is also muted, with he and Anderson the two highest wicket taking seamers in the history of Test cricket. India star Rishabh Pant is another cricketer Anderson has muted, along with the words "reverse", "reverse sweep", "sweep" and "sweeping" after Pant outrageously reverse swept Anderson for four last year while he was bowling with the new ball.
The final two phrases on Anderson's list of muted words are hilariously "w*** bowler" and "worse than Steyn", given there was a constant debate during their respective careers about which one was better.
In an interview with Sky Sports in 2020, a year after Steyn retired from Test cricket, Anderson and Steyn were both full of praise for each other. "I watch Jimmy bowl and he is just ridiculous. I could never bowl those big in-swingers and use the crease the way he did," Steyn said.
"I am a fan of Jimmy's, I'm not going to lie, but when you are playing against each other you can't allow that to come out - you don't want to show that weakness, if you want to call it that. I have no skill!"
Anderson, meanwhile, said: "Dale's record speaks for itself - it is absolutely ridiculous. Unbelievable strike-rate, unbelievable average. He has done himself a disservice as he is definitely skilful, can definitely swing the ball. He swung it at 90mph-plus which was incredibly difficult to face. He was intimidating in more ways than one."
