Jameela Jamil hits out at 'personal attacks' from 'hostile' Marvel fans over She-Hulk

Jameela Jamil has addressed comments she has received over She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, condemning "personal attacks" directed at her by viewers on social media recently.

The actor, 36, plays Mary MacPherran - also known as Titania - in the Marvel project. Her role is an adversary to the title character, who is played by Tatiana Maslany, 37.

The Disney Plus show - which has attracted attention for being a female-led project and referencing toxic fandom - has received a mixed reaction since it debuted in August.

Cast member Jameela took to Twitter this week to address the way that some viewers have responded to it, saying that people have been "hostile" towards her over the show.

Amid interacting with people on the platform about the show, she said: "It is absolutely fine if you personally don't like She-Hulk. I know it doesn't appeal to everyone."

"Some people f***ing love it. But can we all agree that you don't need to be so hostile when you express your feelings to me. We're all fans, let's talk nicely," she added.

Asked to clarify what she meant by 'hostile', she said: "I was told I'm a diversity hire. I was told I would never work again. I was told we should stop letting women write shows."

Further sharing her reasoning behind her tweet, she said: "I was told I look disgusting, I was told I would only be remembered for being sh*t. You tell me what is hostile?"

Jameela later added: "You should read how so many men communicated their 'critique' to me. [...] It's not about writing, story lines, character development. Just bullying."

During her exchanges with people on the platform, the actor said she was open to "constructive criticism" but did not want "personal attacks" or "unhelpful" generalisations.

She said: "I really wanna hear and engage with critics so I can learn [but when people are] rude and personal, it brings up my defence and nothing productive happens."

Jameela however said in a tweet this week that she receives "mostly positivity and love" from people on the platform, but she wrote that "the minority are loud".

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law continues tomorrow (October 6) on Disney Plus. You can catch up on previous episodes from the series on the streaming platform now.
