Jalen Ramsey says turnovers will come for Rams ‘when technique meets opportunity’

A win this weekend could change the Los Angeles Rams’ trajectory heading into the middle of their 2022 schedule, and their defense will be a key factor in their success against the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams have a plethora of offensive talent that will contribute to an entertaining matchup, but it will be the other side of the ball that may determine the final outcome.

Los Angeles is looking to bounce back after giving up long touchdowns to the San Francisco 49ers that doomed their effort on Monday night. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey told reporters on Friday that the team is ready to put the past behind them and improve against the Cowboys, especially in the turnover category.

Takeaways, he said, would come when circumstance and preparation come together for the defense.

“It’ll happen when technique meets the opportunity,” Ramsey said. “It doesn’t happen for you, for certain guys. It’s just a combination of how the game’s going and your technique on that play. Talking about DK’s [Derion Kendrick] play, it was almost there, right? It could have been a pick-six easily. It’s a game of inches so, it’ll happen when the time is right when it comes. We can’t force them. We can’t go to press and try to get them because then we potentially may get beat, like playing outside of ourselves. So when the opportunity presents itself and we’ve got the right technique and everything, it’ll happen.”

Dak Prescott was officially ruled out for this matchup on Friday, so the Rams will face Cooper Rush under center. Despite early success in 2022, his inexperience could help Los Angeles see more opportunities to force turnovers when he passes the ball. Players like Ramsey and linebacker Bobby Wagner will need to be prepared for every chance they might get to make game-breaking plays that could get the Rams back in the win column.
