Arsenal confirmed their second signing of the January transfer window earlier this week with the arrival of centre-back Jakub Kiwior. The Polish international joined for a fee in the region of £21million and signed a contract until 2027 with the option for another year.
The desire to add a left footed central defender at the Emirates Stadium has remained since Pablo Mari's loan departure to Serie A side Monza. Gabriel Magalhaes was the only left footed figure in Mikel Arteta's defence and reinforcing in that area had long been on the club's radar.
Kiwior's arrival in north London comes at the perfect time for defensive duo William Saliba and Gabriel. The first-choice duo have started all 19 of the Gunners' Premier League games this season and the 22-year-old's arrival provides a valuable alternative in Arteta's backline.
