‘Jakhar mistreated for being a Hindu’

ABOHAR: BJP is raising the issue of “discrimination” that Punjab Congress’s former president Sunil Jakhar had to face allegedly for being a Hindu. Claiming to raise concerns of the Hindus, BJP is promising that everybody “will get their due and not be discriminated against for belonging to any religion”.

Jakhar’s statements also a useful tool for the saffron party in setting the narrative in the only areas of Punjab of Ferozepur and Fazilka, where there are many Hindi speaking persons.

Jakhar had said that when Captain Amarinder Singh was ousted i n September 2021, 42 Congress MLAs has wanted for him to be made Punjab chief minister.

He was denied the opportunity as some leaders from Punjab and Delhi had acted against him and advocated for a Sikh face to be the CM, he had claimed and named Ambika Soni for pushing Sikh CM narrative. Abohar is predominantly a Hindu seat. Many BJP workers alleged that Congress had “ill-treated a tall leader as Sunil Jakhar for being a Hindu”.
