Comedian and rising star Jak Knight has died aged 28.

The US comic - who starred in Netflix’s Big Mouth and Peacock show Bust Down - died on Thursday night in Los Angeles, his family confirmed.

No cause of death was given.

Knight was most recognised for his voice work on the 2017 series Big Mouth which he also co-wrote for five seasons.

Recently he completed filming First Time Female Director, starring alongside Amy Poehler and Megan Mullaly, in Chelsea Peretti’s directial debut.

Peacock released a statement in tribute of the late star which read: “We are devastated by the passing of Jak Knight. He was a brilliant comedian, visionary and artist and we were all lucky to experience his greatness.

“Our hearts are with Jak’s family, friends and community during this heartbreaking time.”

The comedian’s show Bust Down, which he co-wrote and starred in, premiered on Peacock in March and centres on a group of friends working in a casino in Indiana.

Knight also wrote for hit ABC comedy Black-ish in 2019 and 2020.

He appeared in Netflix stand-up series The Comedy Lineup in 2018.

Tributes have flooded social media following the news of his death.

US channel Comedy Central tweeted: “Jak Knight was a hysterical and honest comedian. We will miss him tremendously.”

The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani wrote: “Rest In Peace Jak Knight. Hilarious comedian and a great guy. I can’t believe it.”

Fellow US comedian Tim Dillon shared: “RIP to Jak Knight. We taped Netflix specials together years ago. He was an incredibly funny original voice in comedy and a great guy who will be sorely missed.”
