Jaipur police arrests five of '5600' gang linked to gold heists

JAIPUR: The Crime Branch of the Jaipur police Thursday dismantled a gang known as the "5600" gang, which had gained notoriety for its involvement in the theft of smuggled gold by collaborating with couriers.

The city police arrested five individuals belonging to the gang on Thursday. They were identified as Akshaya Choudhary, Ashok Dhillan, Irfan, Nadeem, and Rizwan Khan.

In a conversation with TOI, a senior police official disclosed that the gang was found in possession of Rs 2.35 lakh in cash, a pistol, and an SUV, all of which were subsequently seized by the police.

“The gang was held while it was planning a major heist in the city,” said an official.

The subsequent investigation has revealed that the gang for a long time was involved in stealing gold that was being smuggled to India."The accused would collaborate with the couriers by offering them a share of the money. Since the gold was illegal, nobody would raise any alarm," explained an official.

The police revealed that the gang employed the same modus operandi to steal gold in New Delhi, Lucknow, and Jaipur, but no cases had ever been filed against them previously.

The accused were apprehended in the Karni Vihar area of the city, where the gang was allegedly planning a significant heist. However, an informant alerted the city police about the suspicious activities of the suspects.

The cops raided the places and arrested the accused.
