JAIPUR: Ward 82 residents and colonies near Anaaj Mandi in Walled City have not been getting sufficient water for a week.
According to residents of Basan Wallon ka Mohallah in ward 82, they have been getting water only for 10 minutes for a week now. With not enough water for daily needs, people are forced to order water tankers.
Kanhaiya Lal, resident of Basan Wallon ka Mohalla, said they are facing lot of problems. “Water is being supplied in low pressure for 10 minutes. Our colony is situated an a slight elevation and water doesn’t often reach to that level during summer. We are left with no option than to just run to different houses in other colonies and fill up our buckets. We have complained to authorities but in vain.”
A similar situation exists in a colony near Anaaj Mandi. Munni Devi, a resident of the area, said earlier they were supplied with polluted water, but when the story was published in the media, supply was totally stopped for a week.
Wahid Khan, a water activist in Walled City area, said this is sheer negligence on the part of the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED), “How many times poor people have to knock on the doors of officials. Even if the complaint is resolved, the situation is back to square one soon. PHED officials are not serious in their work.”
Meanwhile, PHED officials assured there are some technical glitches in the area due to which the problem was occurring. “We have received complaints from the residents and have sent engineers on ground. We assure you that problem will be resolved soon,” said an official.
