From Gerry Hannon’s outburst to Frank McCourt about allegations of fraud in Angela’s Ashes to Gay Byrne feeding Hercules the grizzly bear, some moments on RTÉ shows are never forgotten about.
Over the last week, people have been remembering the infamous Winning Streak episode featuring now-jailed criminal Ross Hutch after he was recently hit with a 10-year sentence.
Ross, who is the nephew of notorious former criminal Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch, was slapped with the decade-long prison term on March 29 for two separate attacks on a man and a woman over a 48-hour period in 2021.
The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm to his ex-girlfriend's partner by slashing the man’s face with a knife. He also further admitted assault causing harm to a different ex-girlfriend the following day.
Now, Hutch has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the assault causing serious harm to the man, and two and a half years for assaulting the woman - with both to run consecutively.
While the sentencing of Hutch for his abhorrent crimes has his name in the headlines, many are recalling the moment that Hutch appeared on the hit RTÉ game show, where ordinary Irish citizens are given a chance to win thousands of euros, a holiday in the sun, a car and sometimes all three.
Ross was representing his older brother Eddie Hutch, who has a swath of criminal convictions, during the show which aired back in 2015.
Eddie was selected to be part of the iconic Irish game show after he sent in his Winning Streak scratchcard with three stars.
The younger Hutch bagged a whopping €33,000 for his big brother - €8,000 in cash prizes and a Toyota Corolla car worth €25,000 for him.
Alongside the decent prizes, the Dublin criminal told the host Sinead Kennedy all about his gym fitness regime and also gave a shout-out to his young daughter.
