Jacksonville released its Week 1 depth chart Tuesday, ahead of its regular season opener at Miami on Sunday.
Six offseason free-agent signees and one rookie cracked the Jaguars’ starting lineup, across Jacksonville’s offense, defense and special teams.
Of note, the Jaguars do not list backups to starting wide receiver Gabe Davis, left guard Ezra Cleveland, tight end Evan Engram, defensive end Joshua Hines-Allen and safety Darnell Savage Jr.
Tim Jones, who backs up rookie receiver Brian Thomas Jr., is likely to offer depth at both wideout positions. So might slot receivers Parker Washington and Devin Duvernay, who worked inside and out during the preseason.
Backup interior linemen, right guard Cooper Hodges and center Luke Fortner, should similarly provide depth to Cleveland at left guard.
Jacksonville listed two starting tight ends, Engram and Luke Farrell, given the team’s tendency to operate from 12-personnel offensively. Farrell and Brenton Strange should be considered backup options to Engram in 11-personnel.
Although he is listed as a defensive end on Jacksonville’s roster, Arik Armstead is slated to start at defensive tackle with Hines-Allen and Travon Walker maintaining starting edge-rush roles.
That being said, Armstead is anticipated to play an inside-out role where he rushes from the edge on a rotational basis, a positionally flexible deployment expected to be utilized for several linemen under new Jaguars defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen.
While Savage is listed as a safety, he has primarily worked at nickel cornerback throughout training camp and the preseason. He is expected to see a significant number of snaps at that position, which is not included on the depth chart.
Antonio Johnson is projected to align at safety, where he started three preseason games, while Savage occupies the nickel role.
Kickoff between Jacksonville and Miami is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET Sunday, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
