When rookie minicamp starts on Friday, the Jacksonville Jaguars will at least have their top selection and the top selection of the entire 2022 NFL Draft signed. According to multiple media outlets, outside linebacker Travon Walker has agreed to terms with the Jags and will sign his deal on Thursday.
After weeks of speculation about him being the pick, the Jags selected Walker first overall out of the University of Georgia to start the draft on April 28. The selection put them in a situation where they would be ingesting the top contract of the draft for the second consecutive time after they did the same last season with quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Last week, the details of Walker’s contract were confirmed and he is set to get a four-year deal worth over $37.3 million, all of which is fully guaranteed. His signing bonus is set to be $24.3 million and the deal will include a fifth-year option like all of the recent contracts signed by first overall selections.
Walker will join the Jags after accumulating 61 total tackles and 9.5 sacks with the Bulldogs in three years. He’s expected to rush more from the edge for the Jags, which should give veteran Josh Allen the help he needs when it comes to rushing the passer.
With Walker set to sign, the Jags now have six selections left to sign. That includes another No. 1 pick in Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd.
