Jaguars 2023 roster review: CB Darious Williams

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is still off on the horizon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars dished out $30 million to Darious Williams, they intended to put the former Los Angeles Rams cornerback in the slot.

While that seemed like a perfect fit for the smart, 5’9 defensive back, it was a  different role than the outside cornerback spot he held down as a starter in his final two seasons with the Rams. The transition didn’t go smoothly in Jacksonville, though.

After struggling in the slot, Williams got another shot as an outside cornerback when Shaquill Griffin landed on injured reserve and the rotating door of replacements struggled to fill the role. Williams was a boon to the secondary on the outside, allowing only four receptions for 24 yards on 14 targets in the last four games of the regular season.

A year later, Williams is the clear-cut favorite to start opposite Tyson Campbell in 2023.

Contract (2023): $11 million base salary, $500,000 prorated signing bonus, $500,000 roster bonus, $500,000 workout bonus, $12.5 million cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars signed Williams to a three-year deal on March 16, 2022.
