The Jacksonville Jaguars officially announced the hiring of former San Francisco 49ers executive Ethan Waugh as their assistant general manager Wednesday morning. He will join them after spending 17 years with the 49ers, where he worked with Jags general manager Trent Baalke for several years.
With the team announcing the anticipated news, Baalke also issued a statement on the new addition.
“We are excited to add Ethan to our organization,” Baalke said according to the Jags public relations department. “Strengthening the personnel department was a priority this offseason and we are thrilled to make this addition to the team. I enjoyed working alongside Ethan in San Francisco for over a decade, and I know he will work tirelessly to help build a winning organization here in Jacksonville.”
Waugh had multiple roles with the 49ers and worked his way up to a vice president of player personnel title last season in John Lynch’s front office before taking the opportunity with the Jags. His title before that was as the director of college scouting and football systems. Under that title, he oversaw the college scouting group and daily operations, according to the 49ers’ official site.
While Waugh saw the 49ers have some success with Baalke leading the way, he also aided Lynch in getting the team back on its feet after Baalke’s tenure went downhill. That said, his addition seems like a huge plus for the Jags when considering the success the 49ers have had with the draft and in the postseason the last few years.
