Jadon Sancho's 'key' to recent Manchester United form explained

The key to Jadon Sancho's recent good form has been revealed by an ex-United striker.

Sancho scored just once for United in 2021 after arriving at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund. However, after taking a period of absence for personal reasons, Sancho has started to rediscover his form.

In his last six matches the England international has scored two goals and grabbed three assists. This upturn in fortunes saw him claim the Manchester United Player of the Month award for February.

When speaking about Sancho to the club's official website, Andy Cole explained the key behind his recent success. "Jadon found it difficult coming to Manchester United but now he's run into form," he began.

"It's been a tough first season for him but, in saying that, he's not the only one who has gone through that. There have been many players who have come to United and found their first season to be really, really difficult.

"Unfortunately, he's been one of those individuals but I think, when you look at his quality, that we all believed he had, this is what he is now showing." When asked why the 21-year-old had suddenly improved, Cole replied: "Perseverance.

"It will always be the key. All you have got to do is persevere with individuals and you get what you need.

"With Jadon, a lot was expected of him and it didn't work out the way he would have liked really in the early part of the season. Now we are starting to see the quality he does have."

Despite his improvements, Sancho was not able to earn a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad. Explaining his decision, Southgate responded: "There are other attacking players in our squad who are ahead of him in our opinion.

"Jadon in the last few weeks his performances have improved but it is an area of the pitch where we have competition for places." Sancho's United teammate Marcus Rashford was also left out for similar reasons.
