Jada Pinkett Smith to publish memoir exposing 'complicated' marriage to Will Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith will be releasing a "no holds barred" account of her life story next autumn, with the memoir including details of her "complicated" marriage to Will Smith.

The book, which comes from HarperCollins imprint Dey Street Books, will be published just a year and a half after Will famously slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars.

The 54-year-old Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star slapped the comedian, 57, after he made a joke about 51-year-old Jada, who has alopecia. Will was subsequently banned from attending the awards ceremony for 10 years.

Jada's upcoming autobiography "chronicles lessons learned in the course of a difficult but riveting journey," according to a press release.

It will be "a rollercoaster ride from the depths of suicidal depression to the heights of personal rediscovery and the celebration of authentic feminine power."

The press release teases: "With no holds barred, Jada reveals her unconventional upbringing in Baltimore – from the child of two addicts to a promising theatre student and a violent interlude as a petty drug-dealer."

It will also follow her rise to stardom before she fell in love with and married Will.

The couple started dating before Will was legally divorced from his first wife Sheree Zampino. They tied the knot in 1997, while Jada was pregnant with their first child.

"At the heart of this powerful book, are two unexpected love stories, one being Jada's complicated marriage to Will Smith, the other being with herself," the press release adds.

Will and Jada became a showbiz power couple and welcomed two children together – Jaden, 24, and Willow, 21.

In the past few years, however, their marital issues have been thrown into the public eye as Jada publicly admitted to being in an "entanglement" with musician August Alsina.

Will then revealed in GQ that "marriage for us can’t be a prison" and said "Jada never believed in conventional marriage".

Matters were then made worse when Will slapped Chris back in March. In an apology statement, Will insisted that Jada "had nothing to do" with the slap.

He said his behaviour at the awards ceremony had been "unacceptable" and confirmed Chris was "not ready to talk".
