Jada Pinkett-Smith's Red Table Talk begins with an indirect acknowledgment of the Oscars slap

For four seasons, Red Table Talk has entertained those who've found their way to the fly-on-the-wall, no-nonsense talk show.

Hosted by three generations of the same family – Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris – the show has featured celebrity guests, including Pinkett Smith's husband Will Smith.

Red Table Talk is back for a fifth season, and episode one – the first since the Oscars ceremony in which Will Smith slapped Chris Rock – began by briefly referencing the incident.

"Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing," an introductory screen in all caps read.

Beamed on a black background with white writing, there was a promise to address the scenario in a future episode.

"Until then … the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest."

The message was signed off by Pinkett Smith.

It was the only time during the episode that the Academy Awards were alluded to.

The program went on to feature a candid conversation with singer, songwriter and actor Janelle Monáe.

The series is available to view exclusively on Facebook Watch.

For those who'd prefer to listen, iHeart Radio is your destination.

Will Smith was banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years and resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, after the March 27 ceremony in which he walked up on stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock who had made a joke about his wife – Jada Pinkett Smith.
