Jada Pinkett Smith breaks silence on Oscars slap and wants Will and Chris to 'reconcile'

Jada Pinkett Smith has finally broken her silence on that controversial Oscars slap - and says that she wants husband Will and Chris Rock to "heal and reconcile".

The actress, 50, has remained silent on the incident since Will stormed onto the Academy Awards stage and slapped comedian Chris around the face, leaving the audience and viewers at home utterly shocked.

Chris had made a 'GI Jane' joke in reference to Jada, which Will had taken to be referring to her alopecia.

Friends close to the comedian later claimed that Chris had not known about Jada's condition.

Opening Wednesday’s episode of her Red Table Talk show discussing alopecia, Jada briefly addressed the incident.

She said: “This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories.

“I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people what alopecia actually is.”

She continued: “Now about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile.

“The state of the world today, we need them both. And we actually all need one another more than ever.

“Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together.”

Will has since been banned from the Oscars for 10 years over the slap.

Speaking in a statement given to PA after the news was made public, Will said: "I accept and respect the Academy’s decision."

An investigation into his actions was launched after the star-studded ceremony in March.

"The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards," Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement.
