Jada Pinkett Smith addresses ‘lot of assumptions’ in ‘Worthy’ memoir

Actor Jada Pinkett Smith is putting it all on the table in her new memoir.

The “Red Table Talk” host, 51, insisted that people who watched the former Facebook Watch series “really don’t” know as much as they think they do, despite all that she and her co-hosts — daughter Willow Smith and mom Adrienne Banfield-Norris — have shared.

“There’s been so much about my journey that I haven’t really been able to share on a format like ‘RTT,’” Pinkett Smith told People while discussing her forthcoming memoir, “Worthy.”

“I think people have made a lot of assumptions,” said the “Madagascar” actress. “And you know what? Rightfully so.”

She went on to say that she does “take ownership of that, in regards to the narrative that I’ve participated in,” Pinkett Smith went on to say that her book will “really explain all of that extensively as part of my reclamation journey.”

“I think a lot of people, not even just women ... lose ourselves in narratives that are not completely forthright,” she continued, noting that the title refers to her “journey to self-worth in a real way.”

Pinkett Smith, according to the outlet, started writing “Worthy” in late 2021, months before the Slap Heard ‘Round the World. Husband Will Smith infamously hit Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, in response to the latter’s joke about the shorter hairstyle worn by Pinkett Smith, who has been public about having alopecia.

The incident resulted in best actor winner Smith receiving a 10-year ban from attending any events hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including the Academy Awards themselves.
