Jacques O'Neill has quit Love Island, with viewers now left speculating the catalyst behind his decision, after a preview for Tuesday's show teased a heated spat with newcomer Adam Collard.
Jacques, 23, had been at the centre of Love Island controversy from the moment he first appeared on screen, going into the villa as one of the early bombshells of the new series and causing an immediate stir, given he is the ex boyfriend of Gemma Owen.
Since his shock entrance, Jacques has been romantically involved with Paige Thorne, before going behind her back to kiss one of the new girls while she was in Casa Amor. On Monday's Love Island, viewers saw Paige be won over by Jacques as he opened up on his feelings for her, but then a huge bomb was dropped when Love Island 2018 lothario Adam walked in.
In scenes set to air on Tuesday night, Jacques was left fuming when ex Gemma told him that Adam had been "slagging him off," with Jacques heard ranting: "Who the f**k is he?! Just another geezer who's been on the show? You're f**king nothing mate."
Well, before fans have even seen things kick off between Jacques and Adam, it's been confirmed by ITV bosses that rugby player Jacques has left the show. A statement about his exit read: "Jacques has made the decision to leave the Villa. He will explain his reasons to the Islanders during tonight’s episode. We fully support his decision and look forward to seeing what’s next for Jacques."
News of Jacques' departure comes after his sister spoke out on social media about his ADHD diagnosis and urged viewers to 'be kind.' Posting on his Instagram, she wrote: "By no means is this a get out clause for his actions but it is to show that he can fundamentally struggle with his emotions at times.
"He is an amazing person who I’m proud to call my friend/little brother. All the hate thrown towards Jacques doesn’t go to him directly….It comes to his loved ones who have always supported him and not just whilst he is on Love Island.."
She added: "Love Island, although real. Is still a show where the producers do have control and we see 45minutes out of the 1440 in 24hours," before ending the post: "Please be kind."
