Jack Wilshere revealed some new insight as to what went wrong for him at West Ham United.
After leaving Arsenal in the summer of 2018, the former England midfielder made the short trip across London to the club he had supported as a boy as Manuel Pellegrini attempted to improve their fortunes.
After returning to fitness following a move move to Bournemouth, Wilshere’s move to East London represented a real chance to turn his career around.
Still, as is so often the case, Wilshere struggled with injury and he managed only 19 appearances across two years at the club.
A return to Bournemouth followed and, upon the expiry of his short-term deal on the South Coast, Wilshere was offered the chance to train with Arsenal as he looked for a new club.
Earlier this week, Danish club AGF announced his signing on a contract until the end of the 2021-22 season.
Speaking at his first press conference, Wilshere reflected on his time at West Ham.
“I joined a great club in West Ham, I grew up supporting West Ham, so it was a dream of mine to play for them,” he said.
“It started okay and then there were difficult times with injuries.
“Not falling out with the manager but the manager having a different way of thinking, that can happen in football.
“All I was trying to do was make sure I was ready to play but unfortunately it didn’t work out there.”
