Jack Whitehall has ruled himself out of performing at King Charles' Coronation celebrations. The comedian is the latest name to say they won't be appearing at Windsor Castle in May when a high-profile concert is planned.
Harry Styles and the Spice Girls are among the other acts reportedly unavailable for the show, MailOnline said last month. The concert is set to take place at the castle on May 7.
According to The Mirror, Whitehall - known for his roles in Bad Education and Fresh Meat - said: "I don't know if my material is quite right for such an occasion. I think they may want to stick to Cliff Richard and Rod Stewart. I've been told I'm not allowed to make any more jokes about the Royal Family because my dad thinks it will impact his chances of getting on OBE."
Whitehall's previous remarks about the Royals including him calling Prince Harry "ginger nuts" during the 2015 Royal Variety performance. He also shared an anecdote about a Christmas party for King Charles - then the Prince of Wales - that he was asked to do a routine at.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, he explained: "I heard Charles turn to Camilla as I was leaving the stage and he went 'I think next year we'll try a magician'."
Whitehall has diversified into acting, including in the film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and said he still gets anxious when he tries out for parts despite his years of experience. "I tend to get a little bit nervous when I'm auditioning and indeed when I step onto the stage," he said. "I think having a degree of nerves is quite good and keeps you sharp and on top of your game."
